Allis-Chalmers ED-40
Tamar Vintage Tractors - Allis-Chalmers ED-40
*Now Sold*
A recently recommissioned ED-40, which has been resting in a barn for a many years. The Allis Chalmers ED-40 was the last model to be produced in England at the Essendine Factory in Rutland. Production started in 1960 and ended in 1968. Approximately 4000 units were built.
The ED-40 is fitted with the same 23c engine as was fitted to the 4-Cyclinder MF35, but fitted with glow plugs into the cylinder head which allows for much easier starting.
During its recommissioning the old starter motor had failed, so we have fitted it with a gear reduction starter which further improves its starting. With heat, the tractor starts easily and runs well. Out on the road the tractor pulls well and appears to have done little work in it life time
Since it’s been with us, we have also replaced a PTO seal, fully serviced it and a new brake band fitted, mechanically it’s all up together and ready to be used.
The tin wok is solid throughout; however, it has been repainted at some point in its life and this paint is peeling off which will want some attention to improve the appearance.
We do have a current V5 document for this tractor.
